Munnar panchayat of Devikulam block is the largest in the district with an area of 557 km2. Idukki has an area of 4,479 km2 (1,729 sq mi) and is the second largest District of Kerala. Mountains and forests cover about 97 percent of the total area of the District
Munnar is also famous for the wild orchids locally called Neelakurinchi which blooms once in 12 years. During this time the entire valley turns violet. It is also home to Nilagiri tahr, a rare breed of mountain goat. Anayiranghal Dam
Best known for its tea plantations, dam and lake. Anayirangal lake and dam attract hundreds of tourists who arrives here to catch the rare sight of elephant herds quenching their thirst from the lake. The name of the place itself is derived from this. It is a lush green carpet of tea plants. The place is surrounded by tea plantations and evergreen forests. Top station (32 km from Munnar)
1700 m above sea level, this is the highest point on the Munnar-Kodaikanal road. The rare Nilakurinji (strobilanthus) belongs to this region. This plant blooms wants every 12 years bathing the hill sides in bright blue. Top Station also offers a panoramic view of the neighboring state of Tamilnadu.
Marayoor (40 km from Munnar)
This is the only place in Kerala that has natural growth of sandal wood trees. The sandal wood factory of the forest department, the caves (Muniyaras) with murals and relics from the new stone age civilization and the children’s park spread across a hectare of land under the canopy of a single Banyan tree are of great interest to tourist’s. Thoovanam waterfalls and Rajiv Gandhi National Park are also near by.
Cheeyappara
The Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls are located between Neriamangalam and Adimali on the Kochi Madurai highway. The Cheeyappara waterfalls cascade down in seven steps. It is a real feast for the eyes. This is also a great place for trekking.
Meenuli
It is noted for two acres of evergreen forests upon a huge Rock. The rock is more than 500 acres in area and is an ideal spot for mountaineering.
Chinnar Wild Life Sanctuary (60 km from Munnar)
Situated on the Tamilnadu Boarder, The Chinnar wild life sanctuary is spread across 90.44 Sq.km.
Mattupetty
The Indoswiss Project for the development of livestock is located at Mattupetty 15 km from Munnar. The Mattupetty lake and Kundala dam are other attraction. It is known for its highly specialised dairy farm.
Eravikulam National Park- 15 km from Munnar
The 97 km2 park is a home to the Nilgiri Tahr. The Anamudi peaks is located in the southern region of the part. Neelekurinji unique with its feature of keeping the rhythm of flowering in twelve years The park is divided into three regions. The core area, the butter area and the tourism area. Visitors are allowed only to the tourism area which is the Rajamala region. The Eravikulam was declared as a National Park in 1978. .

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
Chinnar wild life sanctuary having an area of 90.4 22 km2 is located in the rainshadow region on either side of Marayoor-Udumalpetta road. This is the second habitat of the endangered giant grizzled squirrel of India. The location of the sanctuary offers the unique advantage of watching its fascinating wild life at close quarters from the road without venturing deep into the jungle.
Chaturangapara
Located around 45 kilometres from Munnar,on Munnar-Thekkady route. The hamlet bordering Tamil Nadu gives a panoramic view of Tamil Nadu villages and towns on the eastern side of Western Ghats. Power generation from winds is happening here .
